Although the entire circuit is normally public roads, each sector has medium to high speed characteristics more commonly associated with dedicated circuits, facilitated by grass and gravel run-off safety zones that are reconstructed annually. However, the circuit also has the closed nature of a street circuit due to the concrete barriers built annually around the Lakeside Drive bend, particularly where run-off is not available due to the proximity of the lake shore.
Each year, most of the track fencing, footbridges, grandstands and other motorsport infrastructure is erected approximately two months before the Grand Prix weekend and removed within six weeks after the event.
