History
Motor racing has long been associated with Albert Park. Between 1953 and 1958, the park hosted the Australian Grand Prix on a much longer layout using public roads surrounding the lake. Although those early events helped establish Melbourne’s place within Australian motorsport, international competition later shifted elsewhere.
In the early 1990s, the Government of Victoria secured the rights to host Formula One, relocating the Australian Grand Prix from Adelaide to Melbourne.
